We just moved here.  Can I transfer my membership and records?
Yes.  If your membership is current with your old troop, you can fill out a transfer form and for a $1 transfer fee, your membership can be transferred.  Then, obtain a copy of your records from the old troop and we can transfer everything to here.

Meetings and attendance

When are the meetings?
The regular troop meetings are held at The Presbyterian Church of Sewickley on Wednesday evenings, 7:00-8:30 PM.  We hold our regular meetings during the normal school year, September through early June.  Other special meetings are held as needed.

Why do I need to attend the meetings?
The meetings serve several purposes.  They provide instruction and training for advancement and the various activities.  They give us an opportunity to plan for our next outing.  They also give us an opportunity to work and grow as a team.  The meetings are a forum for us to organize and to learn.

Why do I need to attend activities?
All of the activities are designed with several purposes in mind.  First and foremost, they are designed to be fun!  Secondly, they are designed to include the skills necessary for advancement.  They give us a chance to do the things that we may not get to do ordinarily.

What do I need?

What equipment do I need to buy?
That will depend on what activities you want to participate in.  The troop provides most equipment such as tents, stoves, cookware, etc.  You will need your own duffle bag or backpack, sleeping bag, and other personal items.  The list will vary by the activity.  Lists can be found in the handbook.

Do I need a uniform?
Yes.  A uniform promotes a sense of belonging.  When in uniform, scouts feel more a part of the group.  It also identifies them to the public.  A uniform also eliminates socio-economic barriers.  When scouts are in uniform, they are equals.  Learnmore...

Uniforms

What does the uniform include?
The Boy Scout Handbook states “The BSA’s official uniform includes a Scout shirt, Scout pants or Scout shorts, Scout belt, Scout socks, and shoes or hiking boots.  Your troop may also elect to wear a cap or broad-brimmed hat.”  The troop may also elect to wear a neckerchief.  Wearing of the cap and/or the neckerchief is troop wide, i.e. all or none.

When should I wear the uniform?
You should wear your uniform any time you are taking part in a scout activity except when told otherwise.  Examples of when to wear the uniform are:  meetings, when traveling as a troop, at parades and ceremonies, when taking part in a troop activity in public, when selling popcorn, and most other times you are acting as a Scout.  Sometimes it is not recommended to wear the uniform.  The leaders will advise when this is the case.

Where do the patches go?
The placement of the patches and insignia are outlined on pages 22 and 23 of the scout handbook, or online here.
